About Shiela

Welcome to my website!

I am an attorney and mediator with a strong background in conflict resolution. Originally from the Philippines, I have honed my expertise over the years through a combination of education and hands-on experience.

In 2021, I completed the prestigious Harvard Law School Executive Education program, which further deepened my understanding of legal and conflict resolution matters. My journey in the legal field began in 2003 when I earned my Juris Doctorate from Southwestern University School of Law in the Philippines, solidifying my foundation in the legal world. My commitment to knowledge and excellence continued as I pursued an undergraduate degree in political science at the University of Mindanao, which I successfully completed in 1997. This academic background equipped me with a strong understanding of the complexities of the political and legal landscape.

Additionally, I received mediation training at the University of Southern Maine in 2020. This specialized training further sharpened my skills in facilitating peaceful and amicable resolutions to disputes.

Since relocating to Maine in 2007, I have dedicated my career to Family Matters Mediation. My prior experience as a local legislator in the Philippines, where I served as the chairwoman of the Women's, Children, and Health Committee, as well as co-chairwoman for the Peace and Order Committee, has provided me with a unique perspective on conflict resolution.

In Maine, I serve as a Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Service (CADRES) Mediator in District Courts, handling cases related to Family Matters, Evictions, and Small Claims. My work in this capacity has allowed me to make a significant impact on the lives of those I've served, helping them navigate through difficult circumstances.

Conflict resolution is better than litigation, and avoiding the legal battle is my philosophy. I am passionate about helping individuals and families find common ground and reach peaceful resolutions, saving them from the stress and expense of lengthy legal battles.

I am currently collaborating closely with the Director of the Maine Agricultural Mediation Program (MAMP), while concurrently serving as a Certified Farm Succession Coordinator, having completed the program at the Extension University of Wisconsin-Madison. This dual role showcases my commitment to promoting effective communication and resolving disputes within the agricultural community. Additionally, I hold certification as an Agricultural mediator with specialized training in resolving disputes related to USDA actions.

I also bring valuable experience as a mediator in the consumer protection division at the Office of the Maine Attorney General and as a Guardian Ad Litem in Maine.

My extensive educational background, combined with my hands-on experience, makes me a trusted and skilled mediator in the field of conflict resolution. I am passionate about helping individuals and families find common ground and reach peaceful resolutions.
